14 Days Kenya Tanzania Safari – Wildlife Safari with Self Drive East Africa

Day 1- Nairobi – Samburu
On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and briefed by a Seven by Far Tours Kenya representative. You will drive to Samburu National Reserve and arrive at the Samburu Lodge (or similar) in time for lunch. You will go on a game drive at 16h00 and return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

You have a full day in the reserve with game drives at 06h30h and 16h00 respectively. Samburu is famous for its rare mammals that only survive north of the equator. These are the gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx and Grevy’s zebra. You have dinner and will stay overnight at the Samburu Lodge or similar.

Day 3- Samburu – Aberdare
Depart after breakfast and proceed south to the Aberdare Country Club. The club is the base hotel for The Ark Hotel (or similar). You will have lunch at Aberdare Country Club at 14h30, then transfer to the Ark which is located in the Aberdare National Park, with small overnight bags as most of the luggage is left at the club. The Ark has various decks and balconies for easy viewing and photography of wild game. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Aberdare National ParkDay 4- Aberdare – Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, transfer back to the base hotel to retrieve the rest of your luggage and drive toward the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at Lake Nakuru Lodge (or similar) in time for lunch. Have a short siesta and at 16h00, enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park. The drive takes you to the shores of the lake, famous for its birdlife, especially flamingos that form a pink hue across the lake. Return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5- Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara
Depart Nakuru after breakfast and drive through the floor of the Rift Valley to the world-famous game reserve, the Masai Mara. You arrive at the Camp in time for lunch. At 16h00, enjoy an afternoon game drive in the reserve. Return for dinner and overnight at the tented camp camp.

Day 6- Masai Mara
Enjoy a full day in the reserve with both morning and afternoon game drives at 06h30 and 16h00, respectively. Considered by many to be Kenya’s finest game reserve, the 650 square miles of the Masai Mara adjoin Tanzania’s well-known Serengeti, forming one ecosystem. The open, rolling savannah grassland of the Mara is the home of numerous wildlife species including elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena, jackal, buffalo, eland, topi, impala, gazelle, warthog and zebra. From June to September, the annual wildebeest migration takes place when thousands of these animals sweep across the plains and seek out new grazing areas. Have all meals and your overnight stay at the camp.

Day 7- Maasai Mara – Serengeti
After breakfast, our driver-guide will pick you up and transfer you to the Kenya Tanzania border, Immigration procedure and change of vehicles. Our driver-guide on the Tanzanian side will pick you up. You will be transferred to the lodge or camp to arrive in the afternoon. You have time to relax and freshen up after a short siesta, and then enjoy the 16h00 game drive. Serengeti is the most famous of Tanzania’s national parks and is known for its large number of grazing mammals, including 1.5 million wildebeest. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word Serengeti, meaning “wide open space”. You will have dinner and your overnight stay at the Camp or lodge.

Day 8- Serengeti
Have a full day in the game reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. The great plains of Serengeti are where endless streams of wildebeest and zebra pour south toward Ngorongoro or north towards the Masai Mara. Our game drives will cover the varied habitats and ecosystem of Serengeti. Overnight stay at the Camp or lodge.

Day 9- Serengeti – Ngorongoro
Go on an early morning game drive at 06h30, have breakfast and then depart to Ngorongoro National Park via OlDuvai Gorge. You arrive at the Lodge (or similar) in time for lunch. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is referred to by many as the eighth Wonder of the World. You will return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Ngorongoro CraterDay 10- Ngorongoro
Depart the lodge with picnic lunch boxes for a half-day of game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend the steep walls of the caldera into a paradise of woodland and lakes that provide for abundant wildlife. Gazelle, buffalo, elephant, wildebeest as well as the big cats, particularly the black-maned lion, leopard and hyena. A multitude of birds, including flamingos, are sighted regularly. Wildly beautiful as it is, it is not surprising that the Ngorongoro Crater has been called the “Garden of Eden”. You will have dinner and overnight at the Lodge or similar.

Day 11- Ngorongoro – Lake Manyara
After breakfast, depart Ngorongoro and drive to Lake Manyara National Park, arriving in time for lunch at Lake Manyara Burudika Lodge (or similar). Have a short siesta and at 16h00, enjoy another game drive in the park. Manyara is a Maasai word for a plant used by local people in making living stockades for their livestock. Lake Manyara National Park is situated spectacularly between the Great Rift Valley Escarpment and Lake Manyara. The most famous spectacle is the tree-climbing lions, which are occasionally seen along branches of acacia trees. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Wildlife WatchingDay 12- Lake Manyara – Amboseli
Depart Manyara after breakfast and drive to Arusha to collect picnic lunch boxes. Proceed to Nairobi via the Namanga border post. Proceed to Amboseli National Park, famous for its spectacular view of the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro (weather permitting). Arrive at Amboseli sentrim (or similar) in the late afternoon. Dwarfed by the majestic snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, draws on a subtle Maasai cultural motif, featuring natural woodcarvings, traditional artifacts, and a growing selection of local art. At 16h00, enjoy an afternoon game-viewing drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 13- Amboseli
Spends a full day in Amboseli with game drives at 06h30 and 16h00. Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, is one of Kenya’s most popular national parks. It lies 150 miles southeast of Nairobi, very close to the Tanzania border. The snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds dominates every aspect of Amboseli. All meals and overnight at Amboseli Sentrim or similar.

Day 14- Amboseli – Nairobi
Depart Amboseli after breakfast and drive back to Nairobi arriving early afternoon. You will have lunch at the famous Carnivore restaurant, justifiably referred to as “Africa’s greatest eating experience”, having twice been voted amongst the world’s 50 best restaurants by a UK-based restaurant magazine. We drop you off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or hotel.
